LAUNE x Sweet Girls Eat

Sweet Girls Eat takes the stress out of eating well. The NYC-based meal prep service focuses on clean meals made with simple, high-quality ingredients. It’s food that feels good—nourishing without being overcomplicated. And perfect for the NYC girls on the go. Below, founder Jewels shares how Sweet Girls Eat came to life, her approach to cooking with intention, and what it means to make healthy eating actually sustainable.

1. Tell me about yourself and Sweet Girls Eat. How was it created? How does it work?

I started Sweet Girls Eat in early January, almost by accident. I love to cook and on the way home from work I had the idea to make a Google Doc asking girls in the neighborhood if they wanted meal prep. That night I sat down to make the Google Doc and realized I didn’t even have a real Instagram to post about it, so created one and decided to call it Sweet Girls Eat. Growing up in Mississippi, I have so many memories of women endearingly calling someone a sweet girl and the term has always felt comforting to me. I remember that Friday I had a few orders from friends of friends and felt beyond excited! My friends came over that Saturday to help me cook and that Sunday I delivered food to Allie DePinto (read the LAUNE interview with Allie here!) and once she posted about it, I got a ton of orders that night, over 100 people! I woke up at like 6AM that Monday to go to Partner’s in the West Village before work and text everyone individually who filled out the google doc… I had no idea what to do. That next weekend I cooked for everyone and it was so chaotic but perfect– I never stopped after that weekend. Menus are posted every week on our website and pickup is Sundays at my apartment!

2. What is the LAUNE (mood) of Sweet Girls Eat?

I want the mood of Sweet Girls Eat to be feminine in a way that feels liberating and never oppressive. Hence, the name Sweet Girls Eat– sweet girls take up space, are authentically themselves, and don’t try to dim their unique sparkle. That’s what femininity has always felt like to me, and I hope I can create a brand that embodies that– I want it to feel like dinner time at your all girls summer camp you went to growing up!

3. Who is the typical Sweet Girls Eat customer?

The typical Sweet Girls Eat customer is any girl who wants food for the week and may be looking for community. I think half of us have a Doen addiction, but not a requirement.

4. What do you love about cooking and why?

How present you have to be while cooking. I also love making life more luxurious any way I can, and I think homemade food can be a part of that.

5. What do you love about New York?

New York is so weird and unique, it’s always been the most perfect city to me. Even as a child I was so obsessed with it that my dad let me paint my entire room like an Eloise storybook. I love that you can go for a walk at any time, that all your friends live in a 3 mile radius, and that everyone’s living in their own little worlds. I find it very comforting to live here.

6. What inspires you?

So much! A yoga practice, being a therapist, my morning walks. Also, Ina Garten’s memoir, Martha Stewart’s documentary, and Meredith Hayden’s cookbook all came out within a few months of when I first started this and it is beyond empowering to see them living their dreams.

7. What’s next for you and Sweet Girls Eat?

Well, I’m in grad school to be a therapist and I graduate in December. So after that I’ll see where we are and reevaluate! However, I do really enjoy doing the smaller batches of meal prep because of the community aspect and I also really enjoy being a therapist, so trusting that following that will lead me where I’m meant to go.
