Blending Scandinavian sensibility with New York energy, Mie Bøttger embodies the balance between effortless minimalism and bold self-expression. Born and raised in Oslo, Norway, Mie shares glimpses of her life online through her TikTok, aptly described as “My Scandinavian city life.”

Below, she shares what drew her to the city, how she defines her LAUNE, and the small joys and inspirations that shape her everyday life.

1. Tell me about yourself. What brought you to New York?

I’m a 25-year-old girl born and raised in Oslo, Norway. I’ve always been fascinated by the U.S., and I think my love for pop culture is what brought me here. This is my fourth year living in the States. I moved to Colorado for my undergraduate studies, which turned out to be a great fit for me. Growing up in Norway, it’s impossible not to love the mountains. New York, on the other hand, was always a distant dream of mine after my first visit in 2016. Nine years later, I was accepted into my dream master’s program at NYU and am now living in the East Village.

2. What is your LAUNE (mood)?

When I was a little girl, everyone around me would always say that they saw me with a big smile on my face. So, I would describe my LAUNE as joyful and energetic. I am a happy girl enjoying the small things in life.

3. What inspires you

I love a great aesthetic. A well-thought-out style is always so inspiring to me. When you can tell that someone pays attention to even the tiniest details. I find it incredibly chic and aspire to be like that.

4. What do you love about New York City?

There are so many things to love about New York, but one thing I really appreciate is the freedom that comes with living here. It shows up in many ways, but for me it’s the feeling of never having to worry about being “too much”. Whenever I feel insecure about an outfit or how I look I always remind myself that you can express yourself in any way you like in this city.

5. Your bio on TikTok states, “My Scandinavian city life.” What specific Scandinavian-inspired spots do you enjoy in the city?

I hang out at Smør in the East Village several times a week to study. It’s a Danish-inspired bakery with the best cinnamon rolls in all of New York. Walking in feels just like stepping into a Scandinavian bakery, which is why I love it so much. Another spot you’ll often find me at is Amundsen Sports in Nolita. It’s a Norwegian outdoor brand I’ve been working with since I first moved to the United States and the reason why I started TikTok.

6. What’s next for you?

Completing my degree is my main priority right now. I love doing TikTok’s on the side for fun, who knows maybe it will take me somewhere.
