LAUNE x Shannon Anderson
Meet Shannon, a NYC-based wardrobe stylist with a sharp eye for fashion. Though she’s currently building her styling career alongside other work, she’s already styled over 50 clients for everything from high-profile events to Euro summer wardrobes. With a strong creative instinct and a growing portfolio of diverse clients, her dream is to work with top-tier talent—think celebrities and athletes—and she’s well on her way. You can catch her outfit inspiration and behind-the-scenes moments on TikTok at @theslook. A must follow, IMO!
1. Tell me about yourself and your work.
Hi! My name is Shannon, and I am a wardrobe stylist based in NYC! Its not my full-time job (yet), just something I really love! My goal is to become a top stylist for celebrities and athletes. Fashion has always been second nature to me, and I’ve loved it since childhood. I was always drawn to books and games where I could dress up characters and create my own little runway! I’ve also always been the person people go to when it comes to style advice too so why not turn it into something bigger?! So far in my career, I’ve worked with over 50 clients on everything from wardrobe makeovers, European summers, and even weddings. For me, styling is about helping people feel like the best version of themselves and to experience confidence and energy everyone should feel when wearing something. It’s the most powerful form of communication that doesn’t need words- the clothes just say it all. And this is just the beginning!
2. Tell me about @theslook. What inspired the name?
@theslook actually comes from my name- Shannon. So it’s like “the S look.” I wanted something simple yet personal, and also something that feels like a signature. The whole idea behind it is creating a vibe, an entire look, not just an outfit. I always say theslook is a lifestyle. Whether its styling clients or putting together mood boards and outfit inspo, it’s really just about helping people tap into their own version of cool, effortless style.
3. Describe your style in three words.
Effortless, chic, confident. I love looks that feel put together with minimal effort- like an oversized men’s shirt with heels and a vintage bag. It’s important to me that my outfits feel elevated but still wearable. It’s less about following trends and more about owning your confidence. Confidence is what makes a fit. I dress in a way that makes me feel good in my skin, whether I’m wearing a mini skirt or just an oversized hoodie.
4. What is your LAUNE (mood)?
My LAUNE is relaxed polish with a downtown edge- think effortless styling, elevated basics, and just the right amount of glam to turn heads without trying too hard. To be honest I just want to feel hot while laidback with my style lol.
5. What inspires you?
I get inspired by so many things… street style, vintage fashion and just little moments I see on the streets, trains, etc. I love getting ideas from Pinterest, old campaigns, or even someone wearing a great outfit just to run errands. It’s a mix of high and low, polished and undone, that speaks to me. I also find a lot of inspiration through creating content. Styling videos and outfit breakdowns push me creatively and receiving positive feedback and connecting with people through fashion keeps me excited and inspired!
6. What are three staple items that every closet should have and why?
First, a good basic white tee. It is constantly in my rotation. You can dress it up, dress it down, layer it, tuck it…it just works with everything. Toteme, The Row and Re/done have great options and are totally worth the splurge. Second, a solid pair of denim- specifically Levi’s. I love Levis because they’re classic, durable and the fit seriously gets better with age. I love vintage Levi’s the most. They have unique character and history that newer denim simply cannot replicate. Third, a vintage pair of designer heels. These are more than just shoes; they’re statement pieces with a story. Vintage heels add a touch of individuality to any fit, and investing in them means youre carrying a piece of fashion history (while standing out and looking cool in a crowd). I’m very into having pieces not just anyone can have.
7. What do you love about New York?
What I love most about New York City is how it gives you the chance to be whoever you want to be. It’s a place where diversity and creativity thrive and you are constantly surrounded by people chasing their dreams and expressing themselves in their own ways. There’s a fiery, sexy energy here that’s both inspiring and motivating, and no matter what your background or story is- the city lets you just be real and do you- no filters, no rules.
8. Which New York neighborhood has the best style?
This is so hard. But I love a mix of Lower East Side and Upper East Side style… I know they’re complete opposites, but that’s what makes it fun. The LES is all about edge and individuality. Meanwhile the UES is polished and timeless. As you can probably see from my work, blending the two is my favorite; I call it curated chaos. That contrast creates something way more interesting than sticking to just one style. Everyone needs a mix of both!
9. What’s next for you?
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing, high-level influencers and I’d love to keep doing that- but I’m also really into the idea of styling athletes. There is so much creativity happening in that space right now, especially in the NBA. The tunnel has basically become a runway. And if I had the chance to style anyone from any team- it’d be the Knicks. I just have such a vision. Athletes already have presence, and I would love to elevate that and make them turn heads before they even hit the court.
